Patient numbers and record codes

Give every patient your own reference, typed by hand or numbered automatically.

Where to find it: Account & Settings → Practice & Branding → Patient numbers

Open this in the portal →

Steps

  1. As the owner, open Account & Settings → Practice & Branding → Patient numbers.
  2. Switch automatic numbering on, with an optional prefix such as MD- and the next number. It is off by default.
  3. Every new patient then gets the next number, whether added by hand, through an intake or by import.
  4. To number patients you already have, use “Number your existing patients”: you see a preview, type the count to confirm and can undo it for 24 hours. A number a patient already has is never changed.
  5. A number can still be typed or changed by hand on the patient's edit form.

Good to know

Numbers are never reused, and a number already in use is skipped. Once patients have a number, the patient list shows it in its own column and search finds it.
